Lesson
Period 1
Introduction: resources (10 minutes)
Initiate a brainstorming or discussion with students on the topic of resources:

What can we use as resources?
-
Where can we find resources?
-
How many resources do we need?
-
What kind of formats (styles) do we need to include?
Explicit instruction/Teacher modeling (15 minutes)
Initiate the inquiry on “what are proper resources for this PBI project”? Discuss the following aspects with examples to help students learn how to gather and choose information. The teacher will “think aloud” to perform a close reading of a source to show students what it is like to look at the reliability of a source. In addition, the teacher can also show a non-exemplar close reading of a source to remind students of the important steps that they may skip in gathering information.

Guided Practice/interactive modeling (15 minutes)
Students will be given some resources. They will work in the group to discuss and evaluate the resources while the teacher will walk around to facilitate their work. Then one student from each group will share their analysis. The teacher will give comments or complementation.
Review (5 minutes)
Review the key points in this period with worksheet or PPT to enhance students’ understanding of gather and choose information.
Exit Ticket:
Students write one paragraph on the TodaysMeet to explain what have they learned in how to gather information and what are the challenges.
Assignment:
Students will work in groups to gather relevant information with the help of App Rewordify and graphic organizers. They need to forward their resources to the teacher.
Period 2:
Introduction: How to analyze information (15 minutes)
The teacher will take one story, clips of a film and video game to demonstrate how she analyzes this information from the four aspects---characters, values, diversity, and violence. The teacher will also encourage students to expand their thinking from one piece to others so as to find the commons and differences in these media. Then students will feel more comfortable to face numerous information.
Scaffoldings:
Annotated bibliography graphic, claim sheet, and Apps like Rewordify will be introduced to facilitate them analyze and record resources.
Guided Practice/interactive modeling (30 minutes)
Students will work in groups to analyze the information they gathered. Teachers will walk around to offer help. Students are supposed to confirm their argument and relevant evidence based on their information.

Students write one paragraph on the TodaysMeet to explain what have they learned in how to analyze information and what are the challenges.
Assignment:
Students are supposed to fill in the annotated bibliography graphic and claim sheet before they pull information together. App Grammarly will help them check their writing.
